Tending the Home & The Hearth
I am Casper, the homemaker of the Dean family. My days are shaped by the natural rhythms and magics of the seasons and the needs of our home. You will usually find me with flour on my hands, tending to a bubbling pot on the stove, or quieted over a new handmade craft.
For me, homemaking is an art form. I am deeply passionate about cooking wholesome, homemade foods from scratch and filling our pantry shelves with jars of beautiful, home-canned preserves. The crafts I create are a bridge to the past—many were taught to me directly by my elders, while others are tricks I’ve lovingly figured out on my own through trial and error.
As far as this blog goes, I am the voice behind the keyboard. I use this space to document our family’s daily adventures and to share the practical, old-fashioned knowledge I’ve accumulated. My hope is to make traditional homemaking accessible and joyful for anyone looking to slow down and create a nourishing home. Equally, I hope to bring a little whimsical magic to this blog, as this Earthy, Hearth & Kitchen witch loves to share her knowledge!
Rooted in the Land: Bushcraft & Prepping
While I manage the heart of the home, my husband Shawn and I are equally partnered when it comes to the wilder edges of our life. Together, we share a deep knowledge of wilderness bushcraft and prepping.
We believe that true peace of mind comes from self-reliance. On our homestead, we practice and hone the outdoor skills necessary to thrive in harmony with nature—understanding how to read the land, build primitive shelters, and prepare our household for whatever the future might bring. For us, prepping isn’t about fear; it’s about the quiet confidence that comes from being prepared, capable, and deeply connected to the elements around us.
Stepping Off the Grid (Mostly!)
If you notice we aren’t incredibly active on mainstream social media platforms, that is entirely by design. We prefer the quiet, tactile reality of our everyday life over the endless scroll of a screen. We spend our days out in the dirt, in the kitchen, and with our animals.
Aside from our homestead duties, this blog and our online store are our sole digital footprints. We treat this website as our digital hearth—a warm, intentional place where we can share our lives without the noise of the modern digital landscape.
