Introducing Buttermilk & Burlap
If one were to listen closely past the hum of the modern world, there is a quieter, softer rhythm waiting to be found. It’s in the steady tick of a grandfather clock, the whistle of a vintage copper kettle on the stove, and the gentle rustle of wind as it passes amongst the trees.
For the longest time, my husband and I have always felt the quiet tug in our hearts to step away from a life dictated by screens rather than the seasons. So we did just that and it was one of the best choices we ever made for our family. That decision is how Buttermilk & Burlap was born. Our own little digital cottage window looking onto a world of old-fashioned magic, simple handcrafts, family recipes and cozy intentional living.
Finding Magic in the Ordinary
To us, simple living isn’t just a checklist of chores; it’s a form of everyday enchantment. It’s about romanticizing the ordinary bits of our day. There is honestly, a deep yet quiet joy in sweeping a sunlit floor, tending to the soil within our garden or simply watching as a loaf of bread begins to rise underneath a clean linen towel.
We chose the name Buttermilk & Burlap because it perfectly captures the two halves of our journey in this life.
Buttermilk– the heartbeat of our cozy kitchen. It’s the dusting of flour on the counter, the yellowed, handwritten recipe cards passed down through the generations, and sweet nostalgia of comfort foods cooked completely by scratch.
Burlap– the grounding texture of the earth. To us, it represents honest, happy work-getting dirt under our fingernails, gathering the wild herbs, mending what is broken, and having knowledge of the outdoors.
